Uddingston 'machete' attack was targeted incident as manhunt launched for two suspects

Cops are treating a 'machete' attack in Uddingston as a targeted incident after a 44-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency services descended on Main Street around 2pm on Thursday after a man was seriously assaulted by two men within a shop on the street.

The man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and treated for serious head injuries.

A manhunt has now been launched to trace the two attackers who fled the scene in a dark grey/blue Volvo.

Officers say the incident was a targeted attack and there is no risk to the wider public.

Both suspects are described as being between 20 and 30-years-old and were wearing balaclavas, black trousers, black long sleeved tops, black footwear and a sleeveless high-vis vest.

The first man was between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall and of slim to medium build.

The second man was between 5ft 7in and 5ft 8in and also of a slim to medium build.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who might have information to help trace those responsible.

Detective Inspector Susie Cairns, from Cambuslang CID, said: "This appears to have been a targeted attack and we do not believe there was any risk to the wider public.

"It took place in premises on a busy road, with numerous members of the public present, so we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

"We’re also keen to hear from anyone with potential dashcam footage or private CCTV from the area, as it could prove vital to our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident number 1602 of 3 March, 2022.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
