UConn’s Azzi Fudd Out for Season Due to Severe Knee Injury

UConn star guard Azzi Fudd will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL and torn meniscus in her right knee during practice last week, the team announced on Wednesday.

“We’re all just so upset for Azzi. She worked hard to be healthy for this season, and it’s unfortunate when you put in a lot of hard work and have a setback like this,” coach Geno Auriemma said in a statement. “We’ll obviously miss her presence on the court, but Azzi will continue to be a great teammate and important part of this team this season. Our program will support Azzi through her recovery however we can.”

According to UConn, Fudd suffered the injury on Nov. 14, which caused her to miss each of the last two games, and she will undergo surgery in the near future.

Fudd was set to enter her junior season as a staple to the Huskies program, having already established herself in women’s college basketball. In 42 career college games since 2021, Fudd has averaged 13.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game for UConn.

This will be the second straight year that the Huskies lose a key player to a season-ending injury, as Paige Bueckers missed all of last season after tearing her ACL in preseason. The Huskies are currently 3-1 on the year, including 2-0 without Fudd.
