Uber rival Bolt to launch in Greater Manchester this week

Bolt, the second largest ride hailing app in the UK, is set to launch in Manchester and Salford ahead of the Easter weekend.

Already used by four million customers in the UK, Bolt will launch on Thursday April 14 and new users can get up to £10 off their first journey by using the app.

Bolt was founded in 2013 and aims to offer a ‘better alternative to every purpose a private car serves’. While the company is known for its ride hailing app, they are keen to launch other in-app services later in the year.

Bolt is also hoping to attract more drivers to its team and has also opened a driver hub on Union Street in the city centre along with licensed offices, waiting areas and social features to help drivers get signed up to Bolt.

Josh Ryan, country manager, UK rides at Bolt said: “Launching in Manchester and Salford is a huge landmark for Bolt as we look to roll out more affordable services amid a wider mobility offering.

“The city is renowned for its fantastic culture and sport, great nightlife and atmosphere and we’re on a mission to help local residents, students and more make the most out of it by connecting them with the people and places they love.

“Bolt offers residents an affordable and responsible way to get around and we can’t wait to welcome the first set of passengers on board.”

Bolt is partnered with The Bike Project, a charity that takes in secondhand bikes and donates them to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Bike can be donated to the charity at drop-off zones provided by Bolt while the app will also ask for donations when used.
