Uber is on the move in Ireland, as customers in Limerick will now be able to book a taxi through the transportation company from Wednesday.
Limerick is the first city Uber has launched in Ireland outside of Dublin.
The news comes in response to the significant increase in demand for taxis in Limerick, with thousands of local residents opening the Uber app in recent months.

Drivers who have chosen to use Uber are already on the road, with the company aiming to bring at least 100 onto the platform by the end of the year.
Customers can select a destination, know the price upfront and pay through a single user-friendly app, and all partner drivers are professional and fully licensed.
From driver ratings to GPS tracking and emergency support - the Uber app offers both passengers and drivers numerous safety functions to track their own trips, share it with trusted contacts and stay connected with support teams.
As the recovery from the Covid pandemic continued this year, more people have turned to ride-hailing apps.
For example, September in Dublin was Uber's busiest month since the beginning of the pandemic.
Now riders in Limerick can use the Uber app to book a taxi trip at the click of a button.
Uber is already well-established in the city, with Limerick home to around 400 Uber staff in the company's 'Centre of Excellence' – which provides expert customer support to millions of riders across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Kieran Harte, General Manager of Uber in Ireland, said: "We are extremely proud to launch Uber in Limerick, where we have been seeing increased demand for our services. Expanding Uber to the city will help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers while giving passengers more choice, meaning that everyone will benefit."
Izatullah Durani, a local Taxi driver in Limerick and one of the first to sign up with Uber, said: "I'm very excited to be one of Uber's first drivers in Limerick. I'm really looking forward to meeting more locals and visitors alike that book through the Uber app, Limerick is a beautiful city and I can't wait to see more of it on my Uber trips."
