Uber Is Literally Picking Up The Old Clothes You Want To Donate So You Have No Excuse

I’ve had a pile of unused clothing in my room staring me in the eye for months now, and I always *mean* to take it somewhere to donate… but I’m just a (lazy) girl!

I’m not the only one either, with new research showing there’s over $20 BILLION worth of unused clothing sitting idly by in Aussie homes.

To help Aussies declutter and also give these garments a new lease of life, the Uber Red Cross Clothing Drive is here to make our lives easier. Instead of having to get off your butt to take your (clean and undamaged) pre-loved clothing to an op shop, Uber is picking it up for free from your doorstep on Saturday October 19. Now you don’t have an excuse to put it off any longer!

Not only is it a great way to help donate to charity without having to open your wallet — in this economy, my wallet is currently empty — but it’s also a win if you’re feeling eco-conscious. If people can pick up deals at op shops, it helps deter them from fast fashion options, which can have devastating effects on our environment.

Last year, over 100,000kg of clothing was donated during the Uber Red Cross Clothing Drive, which was a massive success. So go on, join in and help break the record for 2024!

When you’re looking through your clothing items, it’s important to treat donating as a gift, rather than a way of getting rid of waste. You have a bin for that reason, they don’t want your damaged goods. According to new research, almost “two-thirds of Aussies” have admitted to donating damaged items to op shops. This isn’t cool, folks!

A good litmus test for whether or not something is worthy of the donation box is to think about if you would give it to a friend. If so, then the Australian Red Cross will definitely want it! They can’t accept underwear, dirty or worn-out clothing or homewares, so keep that in mind.

Wondering how the clothing drive works? Well, on Saturday October 19, between 10am and 4pm local time, Uber will be offering free “Uber Package” delivery directly to a Red Cross Shop drop-off location.

The service will be available in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. Simply open the app and tap on the Red Cross Clothing Drive image, which will set your drop-off location as the “Red Cross Clothing Drive”.

Just make sure the total cost is $0 before you book, to make sure you’re in the right spot on the app. Hand over your goodies to the driver at your doorstep or curbside, and that’s it. It literally could not be any easier!!!! Happy donating!

The Uber Red Cross Clothing Drive will take place on Saturday October 19, 2024.
