The United States has recorded 4,080 confirmed measles cases in 2026, the highest yearly total in more than three decades. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the count as of Oct. 8, with cases reported by 47 jurisdictions, 18 cases among international visitors, and 42 outbreaks so far this year.
That total is the largest since 1991, when the country logged 9,643 cases, according to a CDC historical report on measles. This year's count is less than half of the 1991 figure, but it is already nearly double the 2,289 cases reported in all of 2025.
