Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte world title fight will have no British judges

Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte's world heavyweight title fight will be judged by foreign officials following the controversy over Josh Taylor's win over Jack Catterall.

The Scot won a split decision over Catterall in a fight which has since been branded a "robbery" by fans and experts, and has sparked an investigation by the British Boxing Board of Control.

In the meantime, Fury's promoter Frank Warren, who won a world-record purse bid to host the heavyweight title bout at Wembley, has confirmed that there will be neutral judges for the bout.

Fury, a close friend of Taylor's and former student of his trainer Ben Davison, has admitted he felt Catterall won the fight, and was keen to ensure proper judging for his fight with Whyte.

"There will be neutral judges for this fight," Warren told iFL TV. "It's not an issue, it's agreed. It's done.

"Contrary to what my PR man, Eddie [Hearn], has been putting out there, it's been done."

Warren is keen to see the judging issues that have plagued British boxing be rectified, which he believes can only be done by holding the organisations and the individuals judging accountable.

"You change it by making people accountable," he continued. "You do what they do with football referees.

"If a football referee screws up for any reason or he's not put in a good performance or a couple of performances, then the Football League, the Premier League, whoever it may be, the association, they look at it and then they decide what they're going to do.

"Invariably, if they feel it's appropriate, they downgrade them.

"You have to do something, you can't just let them keep rolling over onto the next one and just say; 'we're going to have an inquiry, we're going to have a chat about it at the next board meeting.'

"Have a chat the next board meeting and say, alright, that was bad,' and then appoint someone again for a big fight.

"That can't happen anymore - it's got to stop."

Fury believes that the poor judging in the Taylor vs Catterall fight at the Hydro in Glasgow last week was enough to "destroy" the previously undefeated fighter's career and life.

Catterall had worked his way to a mandatory challenger position for the world title, and agreed to step aside to allow Taylor to unify the division against Jose Ramirez last summer.

But he will likely not get another opportunity at the undisputed title as Taylor looks to move up to welterweight in search of Terence Crawford.

"I think the judging these days is a disgrace," Fury said in an interview with BT Sport. "I think they need a good kick in the a*** for it.

"They can't change the decision now and they've absolutely destroyed Jack Catterall's life and career. It's disgraceful.

"I’ve seen an article recently where Frank Warren said there would be no British judges for this fight and I reiterate that as well.

"Those words echo around my training camp, we don’t want British judges for this fight, we want proper, experienced, judges who will do the right thing."
