Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte undercard fight cancelled three days before show

The fight between Anthony Cacace and Jonathan Romero has been pulled from the undercard of Tyson Fury's heavyweight clash with Dillian Whyte on Saturday night.

Super-featherweight Cacace took to social media to vent his fury at having his bout cancelled following a three-month training camp away from his family in Belfast. He later explained that Colombian Romero had been unable to secure a visa.

"Actually can’t believe I'm writing this status," he said. "Been away from my children and home for three months only to be told that I will not be fighting on this show. What an absolute f***ing kick in the teeth. Boxing's broke me many times but this time just feel shattered. F*** boxing!!" He later added when asked for an explanation: "He’s had visa problems for weeks... no back-ups there or f*** all."

The postponement had reduced the undercard to six fights but Ekow Essuman's British and Commonwealth welterweight title defence against Darren Tetley has now been added. The rivals had been due to clash at York Hall next Friday night. This weekend's card will also feature Isaac Lowe's clash with Nick Ball while Fury's brother Tommy returns to action when he takes on Daniel Bocianski. Fury's sparring partner David Adeleye will also continue his own heavyweight career.

Cacace was last in action last August when he outpointed Leon Woodstock to retain his British super-featherweight title. The 33-year-old had won the belt in 2019 when he beat Sam Bowen by a split decision.

Fury's promoter Frank Warren has come under criticism for the quality of the undercard and he admitted he had put his budget into the main event after landing a record-breaking $41million bid for the fight. "We’ve put all our money into the main event, but we’ve got a good fighting undercard," he said.

"There’s a couple of good cracking fights on there. It is what it is. Obviously, it’s a disappointment. We want to deliver every time but at the end of the day we are constricted by the fact that we bid $41million for the fight. If we bid $32million, as Matchroom did, we’d have more money to play with.”
