Tyson Fury's cousin could retire from boxing after suffering brutal KO defeat

Hosea Burton, the cousin of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, could hang up his gloves after being brutally knocked out in his latest fight.

Burton, 34, moved up from light-heavyweight to cruiserweight on Friday night when he fought Ellis Zorro for the vacant WBO European title at York Hall in London. After an evenly-contested six rounds, Burton was floored by a right hand followed by a left hook in the seventh round.

Despite being able to get back to his feet after the knockdown, Zorro knew the finish was imminent and he closed the show with a huge overhand right. Burton was dropped again and the fight was waved off as he suffered defeat for the third time in his past six fights. Zorro kept his unbeaten record intact with the win as he picked up his seventh knockout by improving to 16-0.

The former British light-heavyweight champion could now be set for retirement as he told iFL TV before the fight: “This, to me, is the end of the story if I can’t win this fight. This is as far as it goes if I lose because I’m not here to make the numbers up, I’m not here to be a gatekeeper. I’m not that. If I lose, I’ll pack it in, but I’m not going to. I’m going to win this fight and I’m going to look very good doing it.”

“I still want to be a world champion and that’s my goal. If I can’t beat somebody like him [Zorro], what good am I doing being a boxer. I can earn more money going to work. There are lots of big fights that can be made easily because there are lots of Brits that are up at the top of the division, but I can’t look past this one."

If Burton does decide to hang up his gloves, he will end his professional career with a respectable record of 28-4. Burton made his professional debut in 2012 and went unbeaten in 18 fights, suffering his defeat to Frank Buglioni in 2016. His most recent win came on the undercard of Fury's trilogy fight against Derek Chisora at Wembley Stadium last December.

Shortly after Burton's loss to Zorro, footage circulated on social media of a brawl breaking out at ringside with several chairs being thrown amongst spectators. As security tried their best to break up the fracas, one chair struck a man on the back of the head which seemingly knocked him out cold as he fell to the floor.
