Tyson Fury in talks with new rival for Australia fight before Oleksandr Usyk bow

Tyson Fury is in talks to face Demsey McKean in Australia this summer, according to his rival's manager.

The 'Gypsy King' looked set to meet Oleksandr Usyk this April but the fight was shelved after both heavyweights were left unable to agree terms after making separate demands. It looked set that the WBC champion could enter the ring this summer against either Andy Ruiz Jr or Zhilei Zhang, but both opponents now appear to be off the table leaving the prospect of no activity until December.

Fury's promoter Bob Arum then suggested that he may now wait until later in the year, as talks reopened over a clash between himself and Oleksandr Usyk's team for a Saudi Arabia clash. However in a fresh development, Australian fighter McKean is now in the running for a potential date in August according to his manager Angelo Di Carlo.

"Chats began some time ago for Demsey to fight Tyson Fury in Australia and I think Demsey is the best option for the Gypsy King,' Di Carlo told News Corp. "We're certainly keen to do the fight. We've had a good association with Matchroom (McKean's promoters) and we have great respect for Eddie Hearn (Matchroom boss), but I'll have more talks with Fury's camp and see where that takes us.

"If Tyson Fury wants to fight in Australia, the logical option is to fight an Aussie fighter and talking to Fury's people, they don't want to fight a small heavyweight. "Demsey is one of Australia's best heavyweights, but Demsey is six foot six and being a southpaw, he would present a real test for Tyson. We've been given a possible date to fight Fury in August, so hopefully we can make it happen.

"Demsey has said let's make this fight happen. For Demsey to get the chance to jump in the ring with Tyson Fury, it would be the biggest fight in Australian history. This would be a dream come true, all the greatest heavyweights are chasing Fury: Anthony Joshua, Usyk, Andy Ruiz, Deontay Wilder, they all would love a piece of Fury. Demsey is unbeaten and he is awkward enough to give any heavyweight problems."

McKean is represented by Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn who has had difficult dealing with Fury's team in the past, with two fights against Joshua himself having collapsed. However the unbeaten Australian may be one of the only options on the table for the 33-year-old who may have been out of action for over a year if he doesn't compete before December.

It remains unclear if Fury will even be able to entice Usyk in the ring given the Ukrainian was left extremely unhappy with his public demands in their last set of negotiations. In a worrying update for the fresh talks, Fury's rival even suggested that they had reached a standstill while they both plot their next moves.
