While some games in the Ulster Championship have fallen shy of pre-match expectations, Tyrone versus Derry is a derby game like few others in the province.
This year’s quarter-final sees two teams at different stages of their development clash.
The Red Hands are the defending Ulster and All-Ireland champions and retained their Division One status last month with back-to-back wins over Mayo and Kerry.

Derry looked poised to join their Sperrin rivals in the top flight after a brilliant start to their Division Two campaign.
However, a draw in Roscommon and a surprising 4-11 to 0-12 home defeat to Galway ended their promotion prospects.
Subsequent results might put those results into perspective with Galway beating Mayo last weekend, but it remains to be seen if Rory Gallagher’s men are ready to take a big Championship scalp.
They certainly shouldn’t lack motivation and Derry famously defeated the-then All-Ireland champions in Omagh back in 2006.
