After Tyrone’s 2023 season ended in a hugely disappointing 12-point defeat to Kerry in Croke Park on Saturday, Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher will take time to decide their future.
The managerial duo guided the Red Hands to their fourth All-Ireland title in their first year in charge back in 2021 after succeeding three-time All-Ireland winning manager Mickey Harte.
Yet, Tyrone surrendered their Ulster and All-Ireland crowns following back-to-back defeats to Ulster rivals Derry and Armagh last season.
The emergence of the Canavan siblings Darragh and Ruairi as regular starters this term hinted at a return to form in the summer months.
Tyrone edged out Armagh in Omagh and were impressive winners over Donegal in Ballybofey in the preliminary quarter-final
However, Tyrone were a whisker away from losing to Westmeath and exiting the Championship a few weeks ago in Kingspan Breffni with John Heslin’s last-gasp free falling inches wide.
Ryan O’Toole’s late goal also gave Monaghan a dramatic Ulster SFC quarter-final win in O’Neills Healy Park while the Red Hands were also beaten by Galway in Pearse Stadium in the group stages.
Saturday’s loss to Kerry brings Logan and Dooher’s three-year tenure to an end and there’ll be no hasty decisions made according to the former All-Ireland winning captain.
“I haven’t given it much thought yet,” stated Dooher.
“We have to digest the disappointment first and then we will give it some thought afterwards. That will look after itself in due course. Whatever will be will be.”
“You want to leave it in a better place than when you got it.
“You move things on and you would like to move them on better. In the three years we definitely had some big achievements.
“It’s disappointing to end the way it ended today, just looking at this year on its own merits.”
