Tyrese Gibson, known for his role in the 'Fast & Furious' franchise, was arrested on Monday morning for failing to pay child support to his ex-wife, Samantha Lee. The actor appeared in a Fulton County, Ga., courtroom for an ongoing child support battle with Lee, with whom he shares a 5-year-old daughter named Soraya.
According to reports, Gibson had been ordered to pay $10,000 a month in child support starting last April. However, he failed to comply with the court order, leading Judge Kevin Farmer to hold him in contempt of court. Gibson was subsequently handcuffed and removed from the courtroom.
To avoid jail time, Judge Farmer stated that Gibson needed to pay $73,000, which includes $7,500 for Lee's attorney fees. Gibson is said to be making arrangements to settle the outstanding debt.
Over the weekend, Gibson took to social media to express his frustrations, accusing the judge and Lee's legal team of colluding against him. He mentioned that they had attempted to have the judge removed from the case but were unsuccessful.
Gibson and Lee got married in 2017 and welcomed their daughter Soraya in 2018. The couple announced their divorce two years later. Gibson also has a 17-year-old daughter named Shayla with his ex-wife Norma Mitchell, whom he was married to from 2007 to 2009.
In a separate legal matter, Mitchell filed a lawsuit against Gibson for defamation and disclosing private information about her and their daughter Shayla on social media earlier this year.
