Typhoon Jangmi damages parts of Japan’s 17th century Himeji castle

Strong winds from Typhoon Jangmi damaged parts of the outer wall of the Himeji-jo castle, a heritage site in western Japan, city officials said on Thursday.

Around four square metres of white plaster reportedly fell from a turret on the northern side of the castle’s main keep. The damage was discovered during a routine inspection on Wednesday at the 17th-century castle site in Hyogo prefecture in western Japan.
