Drivers have been warned by Tyne Tunnel bosses of a scam that is asking for toll payments by text.
TT2 Ltd, which manages the Tyne Tunnel, has issued an urgent message to tunnel users saying that it would never ask for payment via text message.
It told customers to not give out any personal details if they receive a message and not to click on any links that look suspicious.

The operator also asked drivers to get in touch with them directly if they are unsure whether correspondence claiming to be from TT2 is genuine.
In a message to customers, TT2 said: "We are aware of a current text-based scam which is asking for payment of tolls via a text message. Please be assured that TT2 would never ask for toll payment for the Tyne Tunnels via text message.
"Please be scam aware. Do not give any personal details to anyone you don't know and do not click on any suspicious links.
"If you receive correspondence from someone claiming to be TT2 and are unsure, please contact us for confirmation."
