Australia's Tyler Wright has won her first crown at Bells Beach after beating Hawaii's Carissa Moore in the decider of the World Surf League event in Victoria.
The 28-year-old scored a heat total of 16.93, beating Moore's 10.57.
After losing the final at Bells Beach on two previous occasions, Wright said this was the only event she wanted to win.
During the competition, Wright had to work through pain associated with an illness that forced her to stop surfing in 2018 and 2019.
"I got obliterated, it was tough," she said.
"There's been so many times when I've wanted to give up on getting back to this sort of form and it's taken all of me. I really feel that right now. Unbelievable," she said.
She said Sunday's result was "a dream come true".
"I've won two world titles but this feels rather special to me," she said.
Fellow Australian Callum Robson lost the men's final to Brazilian Felipe Toledo, who turned 27 yesterday.
"Best feeling in the world, best birthday party ever," Toledo said.
