Tyler Roberts is closing in on his expected departure from Leeds United after opening talks with Birmingham City about a return to the Midlands. Signed from West Bromwich Albion five years ago for £2.5m, the 24-year-old is expected to leave the Whites in the coming days as he seeks a fresh start.
The Athletic report discussions with Birmingham over a transfer fee have been positive, with the Blues helped in their dealings by yesterday's big transfer news that saw Jude Bellingham join Real Madrid, with the club set to take a share of the transfer fee as part of their initial deal with Borussia Dortmund. While Jude's brother Jobe Bellingham also left Birmingham for Sunderland for close to £3m to also swell the club's finances.
Eager to bring in a forward to challenge experienced duo Lukas Jutkiewicz and Scott Hogan, Birmingham have targeted Roberts and are now close to getting their man.
Leeds signed Roberts from West Brom in January 2018 for an initial fee of £2.5million, but his time at the club has been plagued by injuries, with his spell last season at Loftus Road being something of a stop-start affair.

The Whites are rebuilding following their Premier League relegation but despite dropping down a division, don't envision Roberts being a big part of the club moving forward so are happy to conclude a deal which lowers their wage bill and allows them to reshape the squad.
