Tyler Perry is trading his relentless Hollywood schedule for a slower pace in Puerto Rico.
The 57-year-old filmmaker, actor, and media mogul revealed that he plans to relocate to the Caribbean island in early 2027, marking a major personal shift for a producer whose entertainment empire has long been closely associated with Atlanta.
"Yes, I am officially, you're the first to hear this, I am officially moving to Puerto Rico," Perry told reporter Justin Sylvester during an interview with "Today with Jenna & Sheinelle."
"No, this is real," he added. "Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I'm pulling back a whole lot."
Perry said the decision was inspired by getting older and wanting to devote more time to his 11-year-old son, Aman.
"It's time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in," he added.

Perry shares Aman with his former partner, Ethiopian model and filmmaker Gelila Bekele. The couple dated from 2009 until 2020. Perry has frequently spoken about fatherhood and his desire to give his son a private, grounded childhood despite his own fame.
The filmmaker did not reveal where in Puerto Rico he plans to live or whether the move will affect operations at Tyler Perry Studios, his sprawling film and television production complex in Atlanta. He also did not say whether he intends to establish production operations on the island.
Perry's comments suggest a reduction in his famously demanding workload, not a complete retirement. He remains involved in multiple film and television projects, including his long-running Madea franchise and several productions created through his partnership with Netflix.
The announcement came as Perry promoted "Why Did I Get Married Again?," the third installment in the relationship-centered movie franchise he launched with "Why Did I Get Married?" in 2007.
The new movie reunites Perry with Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, Richard T. Jones and Lamman Rucker. Taraji P. Henson joins the ensemble as the mother of the groom. According to Perry's official website, the story brings the group together for a wedding in Lake Como, Italy, involving two children of the franchise's original circle of friends.
During his promotional appearances, Perry also discussed his personal views on marriage. Although relationships and marriage have been recurring themes throughout his movies and television series, the filmmaker said he has no plans to marry.
"At this age, no, that's not a good idea for me," Perry said. "So no, won't be any marriage for me."
The move would place one of the most powerful independent figures in American entertainment in Puerto Rico at a time when the island continues to attract wealthy entrepreneurs, investors and celebrities. Perry, however, did not mention taxes, financial incentives or business considerations when explaining his decision. He framed the relocation as a personal choice centered on age, balance and fatherhood.
His decision is particularly notable because of his deep professional and philanthropic ties to Atlanta. Perry opened Tyler Perry Studios at a former military base in 2019, building one of the largest film production facilities in the United States and becoming the first Black person to independently own a major Hollywood-style studio complex.
