Tyler Onyango signs new Everton deal and confirms loan move as Kevin Thelwell hails progress

Tyler Onyango has signed a new three-year deal with Everton before moving to Burton Albion on loan for the 2022/23 season.

The midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a contract which will see him stay with the club until June 2025, but will spend the upcoming campaign with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side in League One.

The teenager made his senior debut as a substitute against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup back in 2021, and came off the bench for the Blues three times over the course of the 2021/22 term after recovering from a long-term injury. Now, the 19-year-old is set for more first team minutes in a bid to increase his progression, which director of football Kevin Thelwell has already praised.

He said, following confirmation of the loan and new deal: "We are delighted to agree a new contract with Tyler.

"He has made impressive progress through our Academy, recognised with experience playing for our first team, and we are looking forward to him continuing his development on loan with Burton this season."

Onyango could be in line to make his debut for his new club when their League One campaign kicks off away to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday. Burton host Bristol Rovers a week later before travelling to Rochdale in the first round of the EFL Cup.
