Look, nobody wants to be the person calling for a travel on every single play of NBA action. That’s wack.
The game is beautiful. And what makes it so beautiful is that NBA players are so good at blurring lines on what is allowed and what isn’t. James Harden made an entire Hall of Fame career off of it.
When officials ere too much on the side of caution, it completely disrupts the game. We saw what that looked like with the Warriors and Jordan Poole a few nights ago.
With that being said? What Tyler Herro managed to pull off on a game-winning shot against the Kings was a travel. It absolutely was. I’m sorry! There’s just no way around it.
Just look at this shot, man.

Incredible game. Herro finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds and a game-winning shot. Nobody can take that away from him.
With that said, this should’ve been a travel. Let’s look frame by frame.

The first angle
Alright, let’s just take a look at it from this angle. Here, it looks like he just regularly pump fakes and shoots the ball.

Looks normal, right? But frame by frame, you can see he totally resets his pivot a few times here.
He steps through after he picks up his dribble
Alright, so boom. He stops and pump fakes here.
He dodges the defender and his right foot is up in the next frame.
Now, before he shoots the ball his left foot is also up.
That, folks, is indeed a travel. A tough bucket, yes. Absolutely. But a travel.
Mike Brown called it out after the game
And, boy, was he as salty as ever. Nobody can really blame him here, either. That’s a pretty clear travel. He didn’t hesitate to call it out at all.
Mike Brown walks into his postgame presser and calls travel on Tyler Herro before he even fields a question

Here’s his explanation.
Mike Brown opened his postgame presser in Miami unprompted bringing up the final Tyler Herro shot: “He traveled” https://t.co/bVr67SMJXe pic.twitter.com/vmaZD45c4E

“To not make that call, to me, is just unbelievable. That’s not why we lost the game, although, I didn’t think we got a fair whistle. I hope when officials go back and look at the game they can see it.”
There’s a fine coming from that, for sure. But he’s right.

Herro, obviously, disagreed
He compared it to the Jordan Poole carries the Heat benefitted from the night before.
"I don't think it was a travel… It's just like last night with Jordan Poole. You can call a carry on every play just like you can call a travel on every play…"

It’s a little different in this case. But, hey. As they say, history is written by the victors.
