Two-year-old dog spends almost 200 days in kennels searching for new home

A two-year-old Labrador cross Staffie called Hades has been on the search for his perfect human companion since arriving in RSPCA care over six months ago.

While he’s piqued the interest of some potential adopters, Hades has been unable to find his perfect match as his difficult start in life means he’ll require a little more patience to help him integrate into a new home.

Haley Medlock, from Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home in Gloucestershire, said: “We really need to find Hades' owners who will have the time and willingness to give him the mental and physical stimulation he needs.

Hades will need a patient and experienced owner to help him integrate into his new home (RSPCA)

“When Hades arrived here he was terrified of everything. We’ve worked hard with him and he can now manage in busy areas but there are some things which he can still find daunting so we’d like his owners to understand that they’ll need to be patient with him.

Having spent most of his life living outdoors, Hades will need time to adjust to a new environment. He is intelligent and enjoys training but can be a little enthusiastic at times so would be best suited as the only pet of a quiet home.

Someone who is patient and confident in handling boisterous dogs is a must for two-year-old Hades (RSPCA)

“One of his biggest challenges is his struggle meeting new people. He may look like a big, confident lad, but he is very nervous around new people so will need slow and steady introductions. For this reason, we’ll also need his adopters to visit him multiple times here at the centre before they’ll be able to take him home”, says Haley.

Hades is holding on to hope that he’ll find a companion who is both patient and confident in handling his energetic and cheerful nature.

Hades would be a great project for someone who is willing to put in the work in (RSPCA)

The team at Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home believe he would be a great project for someone who wants to take on a dog with huge potential and is willing to put in the work to reach it.

“We believe giving Hades structure, boundaries and routine will really help him settle into his new home. If someone is willing to put the work into Hades then they will see he has great potential and he’ll make a truly wonderful companion for the right person.”
