Two women rushed to hospital with serious injuries after Lanarkshire road crash

Road policing officers are appealing for information after two women were seriously injured in a crash in Lanarkshire.

The incident happened on the A70, Ayr Road in Carstairs, approximately one mile north of the junction with Hyndford Road around 1.50pm on Wednesday, March 22.

The crash involved a black Hyundai i20 and a grey Peugeot 308.

The 63-year-old female driver of the Peugeot was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance for treatment to serious injuries, where she remains.

The 17-year-old female driver of the Hyundai was taken to the same hospital for treatment for serious injuries. She was discharged later on Wednesday.

The road was closed for around seven hours to allow for an investigation at the scene.

Sergeant John Houston, of the Road Policing Unit in Lanarkshire, said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision and would urge anyone who may have information to get in touch.

“In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen either car on the road prior to the incident or who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1755 of 23 March.”
