Two weather warnings issued for Renfrewshire

Buddies are being urged to prepare for snowy conditions today after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning.

It warned some roads and railways are likely to be affected which could lead to longer journey times.

Pedestrians and cyclists should also look out for icy patches on untreated pavements and cycle tracks.

The yellow warning starts at 4pm this afternoon and goes overnight into Thursday morning. It covers Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire as well as many other parts of Scotland and is expected to expire at 11am.

The Met Office said: “Showers will fall as snow to quite low levels on Wednesday evening and night.

“Accumulations of two to five centimetres are possible above 200 metres elevation, with perhaps around 10 centimetres on some of the highest routes above 400 metres.

“At lower levels some slight slushy falls are possible, as well as a risk of icy surfaces, before the snow becomes more confined to high ground during Thursday morning.”

Another weather warning comes into place early on Thursday morning, this time for wind. Again, there are warnings of transport disruption with difficult driving conditions and possible delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges, such as the Erskine Bridge.

The Met Office said: “A brief period of strong to gale west to southwesterly winds will transfer quickly eastwards across the rest of the warning area on Thursday morning, gusts typically around 50 mph, but perhaps approaching 60 mph in a few locations.

“Whilst such wind speeds are not unusual for the time of year, recently weakened trees and structures may mean a greater likelihood of localised damage or disruption.”
