Two-vehicle accident closes A9 near Blair Atholl

Drivers have been asked to avoid the A9 near Blair Atholl as a road accident involving two vehicles is causing delays.

On the A9 in North Perthshire the carriageway being closed in both directions just north of Blair Atholl a short distance from the House of Bruar retail site.

The incident happened just before 10.22am on Thursday, April 20.

Police Scotland confirmed emergency services were at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a crash involving two cars on the A9 near Blair Atholl around 10am on Thursday, April 20.

“One man has been taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment and recovery has been arranged for the vehicles.”

Stranded motorists reported seeing air ambulance, road ambulance and fire engines.

Scottish fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) stated: “Three fire appliances attended a Road Traffic Collision involving two vehicles on the A9.

HGVs were turning at House of Bruar to take an alternative road through Blair Atholl.

A diversion took northbound traffic on the B847 via Blair Atholl, Bruar and out at Calvine.

Southbound vehicles were being turned round by police.

Just after 12pm there was a report from a frustrated driver that a lorry was in the ditch northbound, adding to the road delays.

Traffic Scotland issued an alert: “The A9 is closed in both directions just South of Calvine due to a road traffic incident. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route at this time.”

The trunk road connecting Perth to Inverness fully reopened at around 2pm once the vehicles had been cleared.
