Two-Thirds of Americans Back More Federal Spending to Cut Health Costs as Trust in Health Leaders Hits Lows

Two-thirds of Americans, including half of Republicans, say the federal government should be willing to spend more tax dollars to lower health care costs, according to a new national survey. The same poll found that trust in the political leaders who shape health policy has fallen to the lowest levels the survey has recorded.

The latest wave of the Axios-Ipsos American Health Index, released Oct. 13, found that 20% of Americans trust President Donald Trump for health information and 25% trust Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., both survey lows. Trust in congressional Republicans (20%) and congressional Democrats (25%) on health also hit lows. Ipsos surveyed 1,122 U.S. adults online through its KnowledgePanel from Sept. 25 to 28. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
