TWO Scottish universities have been named among the best in the world in a latest global ranking list.
The annual QS World University Rankings, which compares more than 1500 academic institutions from across the globe, has found the 100 best universities with both Glasgow and Edinburgh making the list.
Universities are ranked by how well they performed in surveys of academics and employers, along with data points including their international student intake, citations and sustainability.
Topping this year’s list was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which received a perfect score, with the Imperial College London and Stanford University both filling out the top three with 99.2.
The universities of Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge all made it into the top 10.
In the 2027 edition of QS World University Rankings the University of Edinburgh came out on top for the best in Scotland as it was named the 35th best in the world, scoring 85.9 out of 100.
Although the University of Edinburgh scored highly on its academic reputation, its employment outcomes pulled its overall score down.
The University of Glasgow came in as the second-best Scottish university, as it was ranked 80th overall with a score of 73.4.
The Glasgow instituion lost points for its faculty-to-student ratio and employment outcomes.
Coming in as the third best university in Scotland was The University of St Andrews, which sat just outside the top 100 in 115th, and the University of Strathclyde was the next highest placed in 230.
