The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two rabbits were left in a cardboard box in Airdrie.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted to the incident after a member of the public found the rabbits on the morning of July 30, on Caldercruix Road.
Scottish SPCA inspector, Robyn Myszor, told Lanarkshire Live : "The two female rabbits were found dumped in an Asda cardboard box.
“One is brown and white and the other is fawn. Neither are chipped. We believe one to be a possible Holland lop and the other a cross lop.
“Although there are wild rabbits living in Scotland, these rabbits are domesticated animals and would not have survived the elements and predators in the wild.
“We appreciate that the person who left the rabbits may have intended for the animals to be found but this is not the right way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them.
“Thankfully, they are unharmed and are now at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they are receiving the care they need.
