Two popular tourist attractions to be investigated for 'paranormal activity'

Two tourist attractions in the north are to be investigated for paranormal activity.

Antrim and Newtownabbey councillors have given the green light for requests to search for paranormal activity at two old houses in the area visited by tourists, Belfast Live reported.

The borough council’s Community Planning Committee has permitted investigations into Victorian farmhouse, called Sentry Hill, built in 1835, in Carnmoney and at Clotworthy House in Antrim.

A group, specialising in paranormal activity who conducted a ghost hunt at Mossley Mill in Newtownabbey in 2021 is looking to conduct a similar survey at Sentry Hill.

County Antrim Paranormal Research Association (CAPRA) has said its investigation would consist of the use of equipment which detects temperature anomalies, a popular ghost tracking device.

CAPRA has also claims to have conducted a similar investigation at the Grand Opera House in Belfast.

Clotworthy House, which is an arts centre and formerly a stable in Antrim Castle Gardens, was established in 1843.

Macedon DUP Councillor Victor Robinson approved the investigations, which was seconded by Macedon DUP Cllr Mark Cooper BEM.

Macedon Alliance Cllr Billy Webb MBE asked how it would affect the use of the two buildings.

“I think this is nonsense but if something is identified, could it have an impact on our buildings if something is detected?" he said.

Simon Goldrick, head of arts culture, tourism and events asked if it would be positive or negative.

He remarked that previous claims that ghosts walked around the Grand Opera House led to a rise in visitor numbers.

Glengormley DUP Cllr Alison Bennington asked for the results of the previous paranormal investigation at Mossley Mill.

In 2017, the council granted permission to Ballyclare Paranormal Society to conduct an investigation into any paranormal activity at Ballyclare Town Hall.

In 2011, Mossley Mill attracted the attention of North Belfast Paranormal Research Group which approached Newtownabbey Borough Council for access at night to both the building and grounds.
