Two people were treated for smoke inhalation following a fire in a flat on the ninth floor of a high-rise building in Bootle.
Firefighters from the Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service tackled the blaze in the early hours of Wednesday morning after receiving reports of a fire at Strand House, on Washington Parade, at 2.21am. Four fire engines and an aerial appliance were scrambled, arriving at the scene six minutes later.
Crews arrived to find flames emanating from the ninth-floor flat and had to deploy breathing apparatus in order to tackle the blaze. They soon got the situation under control and had extinguished the fire by 2.48am.
Luckily, two people had left the flat before the fire crews arrived and were treated with oxygen therapy for smoke inhalation, while further treatment was offered by the North West Ambulance Service, who turned up a few minutes later. There were no other casualties reported.
Some crews have remained at the scene, while the cause of the fire has yet to be established.
