Two people rescued from river embankment after huge Ayr emergency response

Two people have been rescued after falling into an embankment near the river Ayr.

A man and a woman were both hauled to safety after getting into difficulty near to Holmston Road today along the River Ayr walk.

An air ambulance touched down on the grounds of nearby Kyle Academy in response to the incident which saw fire crews, police and ambulances race to the scene.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service say they were called to the scene at 1.08pm.

Two appliances raced to deal with incidents with water rescue crews also deployed.

The rescued man and woman were handed into the care of paramedics.

Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.08pm on Thursday, May 5 to reports of persons in difficulty at Holmston Road, Ayr.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances and two water rescue teams to assist a male and female, who were safely removed from an embankment and handed into the care of paramedics.

"Crews left after making the area safe."
