Two people remain in hospital nearly a week after car burst into flames on major road

Two people remain in hospital nearly a week after a car left a dual carriageway, collided with trees and burst into flames burst into flames near Cardiff. The A4232 was closed for several hours overnight on Thursday September 1.

Six people travelling in the vehicle were initially taken to hospital for their injuries, where two remain. South Wales Police said the incident happened on the section of the road between Culverhouse Cross and Leckwith at around 11.35pm. Only one car was involved, a grey Fiat Punto.

Police are still appealing for anyone who may have information about the crash to come forward. . The road was closed for more than four hours as officers carried out investigations at the scene.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "We are continuing to investigate a serious road traffic collision which happened on the A4232 between Culverhouse Cross and Leckwith at around 11.35pm on Thursday September 1.

"The single vehicle collision, which involved a grey Fiat Punto, happened when the car left the carriageway, collided with trees and burst into flames.

"The six occupants from the vehicle were taken to the University Hospital of Wales where they were treated for their injuries and two remain in hospital.

"Investigating officers from the Serious Collison Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses or dash cam footage of the Fiat Punto being driven from the Barry area along the A4059 Port Road East onto the southbound A4232 where the collision happened.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact us quoting reference 2022298022."
