UPDATE: POLICE are investigating a crash which injured two teenagers on Monday, March 4.
About 5.30pm emergency services were called to Nelson Bay Road, Salt Ash, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Port Stephens police attended and discovered a Holden Commodore had been travelling southbound when it lost control and crossed the median strip, crashing into an embankment and trees before coming to a stop.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries while his 19-year-old male passenger suffered leg injuries. They were assessed by paramedics before both were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.
As inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash, investigators are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may have dash cam vision or information that may assist to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Two people have been injured and a person may be trapped following a car crash in peak-hour at Port Stephens.
Emergency services including fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the single-vehicle accident on Nelson Bay Road at Salt Ash at 5.30pm, Fire and Rescue NSW said late on Monday, March 4.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said the car had hit a tree and two people were being treated by paramedics at the scene.
One man, aged in his 20s, sustained a head and leg injury, the spokesperson said, while another person sustained minor injuries.
One person has been transported via road to John Hunter Hospital, the NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also at the scene, although it was unclear if there was a need to airlift anyone.
The operation is ongoing and motorists are urged to take care with traffic delays expected in the area.
