Two people have died after a large house fire in Nottingham in the early hours of Saturday morning, police and fire services have said. Emergency services were called to reports of a major fire at a terrace house in Whittier Road, in the Sneinton suburb of the city, at 12.43am.

A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene but the formal identification process is yet to take place, according to a spokesperson for Nottingham police. They added that the property was “severely damaged by smoke and fire” and that adjoining properties were evacuated as fire crews worked to tackle the blaze.
