Two pedestrians taken to hospital after being hit by car on Spennymoor High Street

Two pedestrians have been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to reports two people had been struck by a vehicle on Spennymoor High Street at around 10.40am.

Police and ambulance attended the scene near the Town Hall with the street being blocked as emergency services dealt with the incident.

The pedestrians were taken to the University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment.

It is understood the pair sustained minor injuries in the incident.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called at around 10.40am this morning to reports of a collision involving two pedestrians on High Street, Spennymoor.

"Officers were joined by ambulance at the scene.

"The pedestrians are now being transferred to University Hospital of North Durham with minor injuries."
