Two NY State Police Vehicles Struck By Alleged Drunk Driver

New York Police.

Two New York State Police vehicles were involved in a collision with an alleged drunk driver while they were investigating another drunk driving incident in Babylon, New York. The incident occurred on Saturday, Nov. 16 at around 12 a.m. as two troopers were examining a 2018 GMC Arcadia that had hit a Department of Transportation light tower in a work zone.

During their investigation, a 2004 gray Toyota RAV4 driven by Jaikaran Ramrookum, 72, collided with the patrol vehicles, causing significant damage. The impact was forceful enough to launch the first car into the second one, as depicted in photos released by the state police.

Despite rushing to assist civilians involved in the accident, the troopers later discovered they had sustained minor injuries themselves once their adrenaline subsided. All parties, including Ramrookum, were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers were investigating a previous drunk driving incident when the collision occurred.
