Two new Omicron variants classified as variants of concern

Two types of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 have been classified as variants of concern in the UK, it was announced on Friday.

Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 are likely to have a “growth advantage” over the current dominant variant, Omicron BA.2, data by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) suggests.
