Federal safety officials announced two consumer product recalls on the same day involving very different hazards in very different products. One covers accessory LED light kits fitted to riding mowers that can overheat or produce flames. The other covers high-end headphone amplifiers whose metal parts can become electrified under specific conditions.
Neither recall has produced a reported injury. Both are small, covering roughly 1,800 light kits and about 90 amplifiers. That combination, low volume and zero incidents, is easy to dismiss, and dismissing it is the mistake. Recalls issued before anyone is hurt are the system working as designed, and the remedy only reaches households that check.
