Two murder suspects remain in custody as teen killed in crash

Two men remain in custody on suspicion of murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The arrests come after a 17-year-old boy was killed in a crash in the early hours of Tuesday, October 4. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene at the junction of Park Road and Boardmans Lane, in St Helens.

Officers confirmed that the crash involved a car and two motorcycles and that three people were taken to hospital. Harley Lea, 17, died in hospital a short time later. Two others are receiving treatment for serious injuries.

Detectives launched a murder investigation after the crash and confirmed they arrested two men, 19 and 24, from St Helens, on suspicion of murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving both remain in custody.

Candles and flowers have now been left at the scene of the crash for Harley while tributes have been posted online. A spokesperson for the force said: "A teenager who died following a road traffic collision in St Helens has been formally identified as 17 year-old Harley Lea. We received a report at around 12.30am yesterday, Tuesday 4th October, that a car had been in collision with two motorcycles close to the junction of Park Road and Boardmans Lane.

"Harley was taken to hospital but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. A post-mortem revealed he died from head injuries.

"A 19 year-old man and a 24 year-old man from the St Helens area, arrested on suspicion of murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving both remain in custody. An investigation remains ongoing.
