Two men rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries' after being hit by car on Christmas Eve

Two male pedestrians in Dublin have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a car hit into them on Christmas Eve.

The two men, both aged in their 30s, were walking when a "serious road traffic collision" with a car took place.

The incident happened on Collins Avenue in Dublin 9 at around 6.45pm on Saturday, December 24.

The were both taken to the Mater Hospital with injuries that have been described as "serious". The woman who was driving the car escaped injury.

Gardai remain at the scene this morning and the road is still closed with local diversions in place. Gardai are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage of this incident to come foreward.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision involving a car and two pedestrians that occurred at approximately 6:45pm on Saturday 24th December 2022 on Collins Avenue in Dublin 9.

"The two male pedestrians, both aged in their 30s, were taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital with serious injuries. The female driver of the car was uninjured.

"The road is currently closed in order for a technical examination of the scene to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Collins Avenue area between 6:30pm and 7pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01 6664400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
