Two men have been jailed after they “violently” attacked a young man in south London.

Enes Ulas, 23, and Daniel James, 24, both of no fixed abode, were jailed at Kingston Crown Court for attacking a 24-year-old man in Mitcham on August 7, 2020.

Ulas was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for wounding with intent, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon on July 29.

James, was found guilty of violent disorder and threatening a person with an offensive weapon on June 7, 2021, and was sentenced to two and a half years’ imprisonment on June 30.

“This was a violent assault on a young man that was committed in broad daylight in a residential area and in the presence of young children. It caused shock in the local community,” detective constable Emily Dawson, investigating officer, said.

Both assailants approached a group in Potter Close, Mitcham where a violent altercation then took place.

James drew a large knife and proceeded to threaten a man. Ulas, who had been carrying what appeared to be a firearm, pointed the object at the 24-year-old victim before chasing and stabbing him in the right side of his head.

The victim was taken to St George’s Hospital where he remained for a significant period of time for the injuries which will have a lasting impact on his life, the police said.

Ms Dawson added: “I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience with the police investigation.

“I hope the convictions bring some closure to the victim and wish him well in his ongoing recovery from his injuries.“Acts of violence such as this will not be tolerated. The Metropolitan Police remains committed to tackling violent crime and putting violent offenders behind bars.”
