PATTANI: Two men are being held in military custody on suspicion of involvement in Wednesday’s bomb blast in Mayo district that killed one ranger and injured three others.

The detention of the two men was disclosed by the Network of Affected People from Emergency Law (JASAD) on Thursday.

According to the network, paramilitary rangers and police arrived on four pickup trucks and surrounded an area in tambon Sakam of Mayo district around noon on Wednesday, March16.

They later took two men away for questioning - Ibrohim Ma, 33, an employee of the tambon administration organsation who lives in village Moo 2, and Muhammad-khonafi Samae, 27, a rubber tapper of village Moo 4.

The arresting team seized a Samsung mobile phone from the first man and an iPhone from the second.

After searching their houses, the two men were taken to Mayo police station for questioning. They were later transferred to Ingkhayutthaboriharn military camp in Nong Chik district of Pattani, according to JASAD.

The network called on those involved to treat the two detainees with respect for their human rights.

On Wednesday morning, a paramilitary ranger was killed and three others injured by a bomb blast while on their way to repair a water pump near their base in Mayo district.

Earlier reports said four rangers were injured by the bomb, which exploded along an irrigation canal pathway.
