Police have charged two men in their 50s after human remains were found in the search for missing Melbourne teenager Isla Bell.
Bell, 19, went missing on October 4 and was last seen leaving her home in Brunswick at around 6pm. By late October, the Missing Persons Squad formally took over the investigation.
On the evening of Tuesday, October, detectives from the Missing Persons Squad discovered human remains during their investigation into Bell’s suspicious disappearance. The yet-to-be-identified remains were found in Dandenong.
On Wednesday morning, detectives arrested three men after executing search warrants at two properties in Bentleigh East and Mulgrave. A 53-year-old man was charged with murder while a 57-year-old man was charged with assist offender (murder). A 63-year-old Mulgrave man was released pending police enquiries.
The sad news comes after Bell’s family made multiple appeals for help to find her daughter, including creating a fundraiser so they could hire a private investigator.
“My girl is missing and dearly missed,” Bell’s mother Justine wrote on Facebook on October 15, per the ABC.
“She leaves an impression, she’s hard to forget.”
Bell’s family have been notified and police have ensured support services are in place.
