Two men have been charged with murder in the Kansas City Chiefs Parade shooting that resulted in the death of one person and left dozens injured. Additionally, two juveniles have been charged in connection with the incident, although their identities have not been disclosed by the police.
The shooting, which left 25 people wounded and one individual dead, reportedly began with an argument over a perceived stare between two groups. The altercation involved 23-year-old Lindell Mays, who allegedly escalated the situation by pulling out a gun after being threatened by another individual. This led to a chaotic exchange of gunfire between the two groups amidst a crowd of thousands, including numerous children.
Prosecutors have charged 18-year-old Dominic Miller, a member of the group that retaliated with gunfire, with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. Miller is accused of firing the shot that tragically killed 43-year-old Lisa Lopez Galvan. In total, 24 other individuals, including at least nine children, were also injured in the shooting.
Court records reveal that Lindell Mays had recently completed a two-year probation sentence related to a previous incident involving a handgun. Following the parade shooting, Mays, who was recovering in the hospital from gunshot wounds, admitted to detectives that his actions were reckless and regrettable, stating that he had acted impulsively and foolishly.
Authorities have emphasized that the charges laid against the suspects are just the initial steps in seeking justice for the victims and their families. They have indicated that additional charges are forthcoming as the investigation progresses.
