Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani have returned to Manchester United training ahead of the Premier League match at Burnley on Tuesday night.
Lingard was advised to take more time off after a transfer to Newcastle collapsed on deadline day, although he disputed manager Ralf Rangnick's version that 'Jesse asked me and the club if we could give him a couple of days off just to clear up his mind.'.
The United football director John Murtough is believed to have advised Lingard to take additional time off in a telephone call and Rangnick indicated a third party was responsible for the player's squad absence in the FA Cup fourth round defeat to Middlesbrough.
"I told you what my information was and my knowledge was and of course, I would have loved to have had Jesse in the squad," Rangnick said.
"We were one outfield player less on the teamsheet today, so why would I have allowed him to have four or five days off? I would have loved to have had him in the squad but it was not the case."
Cavani asked Rangnick if he could stay in Uruguay for two more days after playing for the national side and subsequently missed the Boro match. Cavani, 34, and Lingard, 29, are out of contract in June.
Fred left United's Carrington training complex after 20 minutes after arriving on Monday morning.
Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho came off against Middlesbrough but Rangnick suggested both should be fit to play against Burnley.
Pogba made his first appearance in three months on Friday night while Sancho was forced off in extra-time with cramp.
