Two Man City loanees receive injury updates from Championship clubs

Manchester City loanee duo Tommy Doyle and Lewis Fiorini have received mixed injury news during their spells at Sheffield United and Blackpool respectively.

Doyle last featured for the Blades in October's 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. The Englishman has been sidelined since then with a calf injury but has only missed five games due to the World Cup break.

Speaking after the 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town, manager Paul Heckingbottom provided a positive update on the midfielder's return from injury. He told Yorkshire Live: "He has trained this week. It's just been fitness for me.

"I think he's fit now in terms of medically fit, he's moving really well. He's been good in training and because he's only had a couple of days with us we want to get him back to the levels he was at. Then it's going to be good for those boys who have come back."

Unfortunately, Fiorini will be missing for a few more weeks. The City man has been missing since August with a recurring hamstring injury that is still causing the 20-year-old problems.

Discussing the situation with Lancs Live, Blackpool boss Michael Appleton, who confirmed another of the Seasiders' loanees is out injured currently, claimed that Fiorini will not return to action until 2023. "They’re both injured," he explained.

"We won’t see both of them before the new year. This is probably as difficult a spell as I’ve ever had dealing with these type of situations with illnesses and suspensions. It is part and parcel of the game, it’s what happens in football.

"There’s no point trying to feel sorry for yourself and be negative. It’s dead easy being negative, so easy.

"I’m really disappointed for Lewis. He’s absolutely gutted.

"It’s disappointing for them, a little bit disappointing personally for myself that they’re not available but we’ve got to manage without them, do what we can and I think fair play to the players today. They’ve done that."

While Doyle has managed to showcase his ability in the Championship, becoming a regular at Bramall Lane, Fiorini's injury woes have halted his progression. Before suffering his hamstring strain, the Scottish midfielder was enjoying regular minutes at Bloomfield Road.
