Two people have died in a horror crash at an off-road endurance motor race in Victoria's north-west.
Victoria Police said a vehicle at the Rainbow Desert Enduro left the road and hit a tree, before catching fire.
The driver and passenger both died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.
The race event was held this weekend at Rainbow, about 400 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, for the first time in three years.
Motorsport Australia said the Sunday race had been abandoned.
The organisation extended its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
"Motorsport Australia is currently providing support to event organisers and those at the event, with Victoria Police currently in attendance at the scene," a spokesperson said.
There were 63 teams competing in the seven-lap race of the 75 kilometre track, which is made up of dirt, mud, grass and desert.
The race at Rainbow was the second-last round of Motorsport Australia's six-round off-road racing championship.
The event last ran in 2019.
