At least 25 Palestinians dead as two killed in Israeli strike on Gaza hospital

AT least 25 Palestinians have been killed overnight by Israeli air strikes, including two people who were killed after the largest hospital in southern Gaza was targeted.

On Sunday night, an Israeli attack on the surgical building of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis reportedly killed two people and injured several others, according to Gaza's health ministry.

The attack came just days after the facility was overwhelmed with the dead and wounded, as Israel resumed its war on Gaza with a fresh wave of air raids last week.

One of those killed on Sunday was a 16-year-old boy who had undergone surgery two days earlier.

Also killed was Ismail Barhoum, a member of Hamas’s political bureau who was receiving medical treatment at the hospital, Hamas said in a statement.

Israel’s military confirmed the attack, stating it had hit a member of Hamas.

Israeli officials have repeatedly blamed civilian casualties on Hamas, arguing the militant group deliberately operates in densely populated areas.

Overnight on Sunday into Monday, Israeli strikes across Gaza killed at least 25 Palestinians, including several women and children.

Nasser Hospital received seven bodies from strikes overnight and four from strikes the previous day.

Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City received 11 bodies from strikes overnight, including three women and four children.

One of the strikes killed two children, their parents, their grandmother and their uncle.

The European Hospital received three bodies from a strike near Khan Younis.

Since Israel resumed its assault on Gaza last week, more than 600 people have been killed, including dozens within the past 24 hours, according to Palestinian health officials.

On Sunday, the official death toll in Gaza since October 7, 2023 exceeded 50,000, although many experts have warned this figure is likely an underestimation.

In other news, on Monday morning officials said Egypt has introduced a new proposal to try and get the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas back on track.

Under the proposals, Hamas would release five living hostages, including an American-Israeli, in return for Israel allowing humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and a weeks-long pause in the fighting.

Israel would also release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

A Hamas official said the group had “responded positively” to the proposal, without elaborating.
