Two new Greggs drive-thru takeaways could be coming to the Bristol area - and one of them could open by the end of the year. The bakery chain has plans to open drive-thru takeaways in Cribbs Causeway and in Abbey Wood retail park in Filton.
The Abbey Wood plans have previously been reported by Bristol Live, but Greggs has now announced that this store could be open by the end of this year. A Greggs spokesperson said: “We can confirm we’re looking to open a drive-thru at Abbey Wood Retail Park later this year and will be sure to share information in due course.”
The company has also submitted plans to South Gloucestershire Council for another drive-thru in Cribbs Causeway. If the proposal is approved, the store will be opened opposite the Costa coffee shop.

A Greggs spokesperson confirmed the plans and said they "will be sure to share any further information in due course.” The company has around 14 stores in Bristol, but these will be the first ones with a drive-thru. They opened their first drive-thru in June 2017 at a service station in Greater Manchester.
The Abbey Wood store is due to open alongside a Travelodge after those plans were approved in 2020, and both will be accessed via the existing route into McDonalds. A Travelodge spokesperson said they did not have any update on the site.
There were some concerns at the time that the new hotel and takeaway would not have enough car parking spaces, with the plans providing for 46, and that there would be more congestion around the MoD roundabout.
But the retail park’s owners said the proposals would create 25 jobs and help accommodate visitors when YTL’s Bristol Arena opens at Filton Airfield in 2024.
