Two Doors Down blow as major cast member quits ahead of sixth season and Ayrshire actor reprises role

Ayrshire actor and wrestler Grado is set to return to the small screen as he reprises his role in Two Doors Down. Stevenston funnyman Graeme Stevely will feature as hapless Alan when the smash hit BBC sitcom returns for a sixth series later this year.

But one of the casts' stars won't be returning to Latimer Crescent after it was announced that Doon Mackichan has left the show and her character is set to be written out of the programme. In new episodes, Doon's character, Cathy, has apparently left husband Colin, played by Jonathan Watson.

The rest of the cast will be returning to the popular comedy, with Arabella Weir and Alex Norton playing Beth and Eric. Christine (Elaine C Smith), ever-positive Michelle (Joy McAvoy), loving son Ian (Jamie Quinn) and his wide-eyed fiancé Gordon (Kieran Hodgson) will also be reprising their roles in the new reason, Chortle reports.

Producers at BBC Studios Comedy said: "It has been absolutely fantastic to have Doon in the show. She’ll always be part of the Two Doors Down family and we wish her all the best.

"Her character Cathy has been a great source of horror, entertainment and laughs for millions of viewers over the years. We await news of what will become of poor Colin. What will he do with all the empties? And who’ll microwave his dinner for him?"

Siobhan Redmond will also be joining the cast as a new series regular, although her role has not yet been revealed.
Steven Canny, executive producer for BBC Studios Comedy said: "It’s such a pleasure and privilege to be back making Two Doors Down.

"It’s a phenomenal crew, a brilliantly funny cast and the beautifully crafted scripts are a constant source of surprise and delight sprinkled with cruelty. I’m really looking forward to the audience seeing the new ways we’ve found to torment poor Beth and Eric."

Commissioning editor Seb Barwell, said the show "continues to delight audiences with its miniature masterpieces of contained comedy". The episodes will air on BBC Two and iPlayer later this year and are being filmed on location and at BBC Scotland’s Dumbarton Studios. The first five series are available on BBC iPlayer.
