Two children killed in road accident in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Two children-- a boy aged six years and his sister aged nine years-- were killed after a speeding truck rammed into them and their family members on the Western Express Highway at Dahisar on Thursday evening. The children, Aakash and Ashika Gupta, were helping their parents and older sister, Akruti, 12, to load their luggage into an autorickshaw when the crash occurred.

The truck further rammed into a divider before coming to a halt. Bystanders caught hold of the truck driver and gave him a thrashing before handing him over to the police.

Dahisar police have registered a case of negligence and rash driving under IPC provisions against the truck driver. Akruti is in the ICCU after suffering serious injuries while the kids' mother, Dharamsheela, has also been hospitalised, police said.

The Guptas live at Naigaon near Vasai. They had returned from an outstation trip and had got off the train at Borivali station. They further planned to head home in an auto from Borivali when the crash occurred.
